A LETTER FOR PEOPLE
(by: Riris Harwiyati)
Dear People,
I just want to remind you
Something that may be you forget
When I was strong
What I have done for you
What I have given to you
And how difficult I did it
Do you know, you have changed?
You forget about me
Never care with me anymore
You are not the same
Your arrogance is gonna kill me
So I hope you can change
After hearing what I want to say
People, don’t you remember?
By using my strong land, I used to keep you from landslide
By using fruit and the other things that appear from my body,
I used to save you from hunger
By using my trees, I used to keep you from warm
By using the roots in my land, I used to save you from blood
By using the lakes on my body, I used to keep you from
dryness
By using the green leaves on my trees, I used to give you
fresh air to breath
By using all of me, I used to make you survive to life.
I used to save you from anything that can make you extinct,
people
And now look what you have done to me!
You change my trees with buildings
Fulfill my lakes with your rubbish
Hoe my mountains to be your roads
You neglect your promise, your duty to keep me
To save me from destruction
As what I did to you
Who do you think I am, people?
A strong earth that you can exploit as you want?
A rich thing that can give you everything?
No people, I am not the same anymore
I am old
I am fragile
I am weak, people
I can’t always help you if like this
So please give me your hands
Hug me tight
Give me your affection
Heal me
Oh people, please save me
From everything that can destroy me
That can destroy you too
Love,
Fragile Earth
